Tinctures

A tincture is a concentrated extract made by soaking fresh or dried herbs in a menstruum, in this case high proof alcohol. The herb is soaked for at least 6 weeks, often longer. The alcohol effectively pulls out the medicinal components from the plant, leaving you with liquid herbal medicine. (If you do not wish to have the alcohol, drop the medicine into a little warm/hot water and the alcohol will evaporate. Remember, the amount of actual alcohol you are taking in a single dose is really very, very small.)
