Chenopodium album
Lambs 1/4’s are a common weed in rich soil that are easily identified by their arrowhead or goose foot shaped leaves that always have a grainy, silvery powder on the underside. They are edible both raw or cooked, though may be more of an acquired taste eaten raw. They are a rich source of vitamins and minerals and help to return these nutrients to the soil quickly. Good levels of vitamins B1 and B2. Leaves, seeds, shoots are all edible, though seeds should be consumed in small amounts and the raw leaf in small amounts also. Aviary birds and chooks are big fans of the seeds and leaves, though can cause them to gain weight, hence the name “fat hen”.
